Funky Life, I've Been Told.

All that glitters is not gold. I've spent the last few days going through a ton of new tracks. This one here caught my ear. Nice mellow groove, makes me miss my old Rhodes, nothing else sounds like that.

A great, great soul album that should be on everyone's shelf turntable. Candi Staton's Self-Titled. Several solid tracks with some old standards thrown in. This track is the most. The recording isn't the best so if you have an EQ load up the bass and mids, otherwise it doesn't have the overall power that I think it deserves.

It's Alive, It's ALIVE!!!

Yeah, it's been crazy here, sold our place and bought another one, bankin', lawyerin', packin' and soon to be movin'... I fixed up the links on all the older posts so they are back in action, my host changed from a com to a net so a re-linking I went... Anyhow, there's a track here you need to check out by a group aptly named The Heavy. Dig in.

It all disappeared...

Well, the site I use to store my music is now a 404. So for the time being everything is broken. I'll see if I can do something about it but it probably involves uploading all my files to another server and relinking all my posts... ugh... so for now let's just say it all disappeared. I'll keep you posted.

Aren't you always getting scared of the future.

Morcheeba tends to be a bit more chill then this. I've not heard much of their stuff outside of this album but it does get into the rotation fairly often none the less. Nice melodies throughout.

Criminology.

A very cool Wu-Tang cover/tribute album. Great sound comin' from these guys.

You can season the pot well...

But here's The Main Ingredient. Yeah I've been away for a few weeks but I'm back. I've got a little side project on the go which has been eating up my time lately. Also, I heard the links weren't working anymore but I've fixed ('cause I accidentally broke...) them.

The weekend has landed!

Well it's gonna be landing around 3:30 tomorrow but hey it's always good to get psyched up early. A clip from Human Traffic today and a track from Big Skinny.

I'm gonna get my face on the six o'clock news.

Flashing blue lights, camera, action! Hard-Fi has a good album here. This song really gets stuck in my head. It's a good'un.

Welcome to the church of slack.

In honour of my slack weekend of no posts I bring to you today one of my all time favorite bands of all time. Ladies and gentlemen... The Slackers.

To my friends in the east: Two shows in Toronto early next month.  Check their site & GO. They are amazing live.

A blast from the past!

Well to be more specific, a blast from my past... Around about nine years ago I put together an album of music I made on el computador. I think maybe half the tracks are still listenable. There is a bonus with this one in that a fellow from Toronto had found my stuff on garageband.com and used this very track in a short film. It's on YouTube and thus the image quality isn't exactly top notch but the film is pretty sweet none the less. Also, no art on this one because I've lost the files and wouldnt you know it I don't come up on google... lol. Enjoy.

Under sea, under you, under we, undivided, undecided.

Yeah, a track great for a Wednesday (or any day). Something to get us over to the bright side of the week. And hey! On said bright side, The Passion Pit is still up (fingers crossed) Hopefully I wont get any more DMCA emails. Oh and also, they deleted that Calvin Harris track from my private paid for online storage. Yeah really 1984 What? WTF gives them the right to delete my music?

Issues.

Yeah, no post yesterday and nothing for today. The last two days I've had a couple of posts taken down courtesy of the DMCA. I'm thinking this may be due to my blog being hosted in the US. I'm looking into whether or not I can move to another host elsewhere to see if there's anything I can do. I'm guessing the Passion Pit post will get pulled tomorrow, we'll see. For the time being, starting tomorrow I'm going to go with mostly older stuff. The new music seems to be more closely monitored by the cease and desist'ers. So until tomorrow! By the way that Miike Snow album from the Animal post a while back is fantastic, especially Sylvia. Check it out!

Like stars burning holes right through the dark.

A great remix here to end the remixtravaganza that was this weekend. I tend to listen to it too loud, I dunno, but anyhow, here you go.

Extra Free Gift Bonus. The Knocks Remix

Yes indeedy I wrote graffiti on the bus.

A classic from the way back.

Removed.

More music you're not allowed to hear.
Yeah this La Roux self-titled is a fine record.  Maybe I'm biased because I too, am a roux. Real catchy melodies and good beats.

Removed.

Apparently Calvin Harris would prefer his music not be heard so now its gone!
I know it's Thursday and I know it's a four day week but I am so ready for the weekend. I think I'm gonna throw a double double remix weekend all up on the pile. Hooray for bonus tracks.

I'll bring the bread, you bring the wine.

I'm really diggin' this album lately. You should dig it too. It was a toss up between this and "Can't Believe A Single Word" Check that one out too, its on their site.

Bonus.

Sure this bonus substitute for a track post, isn't really a part of the standard little format I got goin here, but, well, you'll see.

Everything I touch.

Love the bass line, that trumpet and that choice wah-wah/bubbles/spaceship sample.

Beatstravaganza.

Okay, Okay, Okay. I've been real busy slacking lately. So to make up for it I have a bunch of stuff for all the beat starved folks out there. 10 years old this one? Feels like only yesterday.

Sometimes I feel like I need a little soul.

An extra post today to make up for yesterday. I fell asleep way early last night!

No one said it would be easy.

To weather the rain, to weather the snow, to weather the storm.

Thursday, September 3, 2009

Easy conversations, there's no such thing.

I've been trying to find a good remix of this one. It's begging to be done. There's a decent 80kidz mix here, but the poor sound quality kills it. I may well have to come out of retirement and do it myself!

Gumnaam.

It's 1966, you're a Bollywood music legend writing a song for a film. This right here kids, this is what you wanna do. (Complete with the scene from the film!)

A Simple Thing.

Nice downtempo groove. Not sure I've ever heard salt water sound quite like that.

Monday, August 31, 2009

Never Stop Swimming Until You Reach The Ocean.

A track that used to be the theme for a show on CBC Radio One (Brave New Waves maybe?) I don't remember for sure it's been many years. Turn this one up, sit back and relax...

Yeah, About Yesterday.

Here's an extra to make up for the lack of track yesterday. Dig in!

Five Hundred Pounds.

This album has been with me for around 15 years and I still love every track on it. Gordie Johnson is rippin' that poor Les Paul apart.

Friday, August 28, 2009

I'll Take You Where The Music Plays For Free.

Little Boots has a really good album goin here. I've put it on like everyday for the past few weeks.

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Carl Hancock Rux Take Two...

It was a toss up between a few tracks on this album. But this was the one that got me into the rest of it.

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Hold On Stop The Presses...

So there I was with a great track to post for today, and then I heard this one. I guess Carl Hancock Rux is gettin' posted tomorrow.

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Billy throws one down.

I dare you to try and sit still through this one. Not possible.

Monday, August 24, 2009

Hey, Wake up...

Bobby Hughes' Donovan inspired lounge spectacular... Hey! Wake up...

Sunday, August 23, 2009

I know what you have done.

Powerful track. Slow and mellow at the start. Lyrics loaded with hurt, released on overdriven keys.

Saturday, August 22, 2009

I change shapes.

Is that Phil Collins? What? The Police? What? How about three Swedes that churn out smash pop hits for a day job... That piano break is rippin'.

The Night's Too Long

Lotsa 80's synth sounds. Palm muting throughout. Sleeping with the lights on.

Thursday, August 20, 2009

Alabama, Arkansas...

A country twang, a driving beat and a tambourine. In a love song. Nice one.
